Program Description

awardThe Cops and Kids Mentor Program pairs teenagers with a police officer from their community.  The officer provides guidance and direction as a friend and mentor instead of just as an authority figure.  The goal is to put kids on the right path and keep them out of jail.

Grant Information

This grant is used for officer training and materials.  Police departments will pair up one officer with a youth from 12 to 17 years of age.  This youth will be required to serve as a volunteer for one year at the police community programs.  Individuals completing the program will receive a letter of recommendation from the participating department which can be used for scholarship applications, college applications or job applications.
